ProWein 2020 – why we’ll attend

ProWein… the mammoth show in the wine business, the biggest, the best attended, annually staged in (beer city) Düsseldorf. This event is possibly the one and only thing wine-ish in Germany that the French are so envious about, they call the show the German paradox.

This is the third year we are attending – as visitors – and we keep being mesmerised by the sheer size of the fair. It can be overwhelming, with its fourteen halls full to the brim with exhibitors from all parts of the winemaking world. We keep cool though (having been in the professional events business ourselves long enough) and come well prepared. It is the masterclasses, presentations and guided tastings we do come for!

ProWein lures with new(-ish) expo sections such as the trend show “same but different” featuring trends from the spirits, craft beer and cider scene. If that’s for you, there is about 120 exhibitors in the dedicated area, plus another couple of hundreds around the expo halls (a full press release here)

We at BottleStops though will fill our agenda with spotlight tastings and masterclasses. It is the rare chance to live-follow renowned MW’s, wine journalists and bloggers as they speak to topics and wine trends that move the wine world. Want to understand how Orange Wines mature? Learn how vintners deal with climate change? Get a feel for the chances of canned wines in the German market? How Sekts can compete on the international stage?

There’s a good chance we get some answers at ProWein. Looking forward to it!
