Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a wine tour in Germany? -Here’s what people want to know about wine travel in German wine country.

Where do wine tours depart in Mainz?

Unless agreed upon differently BottleStops day tours start and end at the pickup parking lot of Mainz Hauptbahnhof / Mainz Main Station. Look up ‘BottleStops tour departure point’ in Google maps. Private tours include a pickup in the Mainz city area, and upon agreement at any other place – for instance Frankfurt.

Can you pick-up at accommodation in Mainz or Frankfurt?

For our public day tours pick-up can be arranged for at your accommodation in the Mainz area. Just choose the ‘pickup’ option accordingly in the check-out when booking the tour.

For pickup outside of Mainz, for instance from Frankfurt or at a hotel in a wine region, please contact BottleStops for a separate quote.

Can you pick-up from a Rhine River cruise ship?

Yes, we can arrange to meet you and drop you off at your river cruise ship. This is possible for private tours only and will depend on your Rhine river cruise’s schedule and mooring points

Do you offer wine tours from Frankfurt?

We do offer private tours with pickup from Frankfurt. However, for public tours we kindly request participants to meet us at the official tour departure point at Mainz Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). Mainz train station can be very easily reached by train from Frankfurt.

How long are the wine tours?

Our wine tours into the wine country typically take between 6 and 8 hours. Our day tours to Rheinhessen or to Rheingau normally leave at 10am and return by 4pm.

How many tastings are included?

Our wine tours include 2 to 3 tastings, and each tasting includes 5-8 tasting samples.

What wines will be tasted?

We only taste wines from very good wineries. The tastings cover wines typical for the region, with normally two thirds white wine and one third red wine. By default, we taste dry wines, but off-dry and sweet wines can be part of the tastings, too.

In which parts of Germany do you do your wine tours?

We cover Rheingau and Rheinhessen with public and private tours. The wine regions Pfalz, Mosel, Mittelrhein, Baden and Franken will be visited on demand on private tours. Check out the wine regions section of our website with plenty of information and travel tips.
